A tribute to Arshia Ladak, who believed that each saree has something unique to offer.
This is a saree inspired by the book "A Wardrobe Full Of Stories" by Arshia Ladak. As Arshia maam has mentioned in her book- "I am reminded that a saree has been associated with a weaver's family prior to being incorporated into my wardrobe. Every saree I wear incorporates intricate designs, the scent of flowers in the weaver's wife's hair, the shuttles, his perspiration, tears, and the aroma of freshly cooked rice, which is awaiting him as he ties a final knot in a long day's work.
If you pay attention to the motif on the pallu of the saree, you will notice this.
1. Mango or Paisley- a potent ancient fertility symbol in South Asia.
2. Seeds- symbolizing auspicious beginnings.
3. Leaf- evoking the bounty of nature.
4. Shiva's trishul or Durga' trident.
5. Lotus- a sign of hope.
6. A butta, a symbol of Cyprus tree bending in wind but not breaking, symbolizing strength.
7. Sawtooth, a symbol of protection.
8. Trefoil flower- a motif used in South Asia since 2000 BC.
